Ratnakar — Luxury Jewellery

Fine jewellery and accessories

The brief

Ratnakar sells fine diamond jewellery, watches, bags and fragrances — Indian craft positioned as modern luxury. The buyer is spending a significant sum without holding the piece, which is the whole design brief. Built end to end: Domain and DNS, hosting and mail, the build itself, the identity applied through it, the written content, the product and lifestyle photography, SSL and hardening, on-page SEO and the analytics behind it. One supplier, one set of artwork, one place to ask when something needs changing.

The challenge

Jewellery is the hardest category to photograph and the hardest to sell unseen. Stones read differently under every light, and a customer deciding between two pieces needs detail a catalogue photograph does not carry. A luxury site also has to look expensive without looking slow or fragile, and has to hold several quite different product types — jewellery, watches, bags, fragrance — under one identity without any of them looking like an afterthought.

Our approach

A restrained interface so the pieces carry the page. Photography and detail shots treated as the primary content. Categories separated clearly enough that a watch buyer and a jewellery buyer each find their own route without either feeling like a subsection of the other.

The result

A store presenting several luxury categories under one identity, with the specification a considered buyer needs before enquiring — hosting, mail, certificate and search all handled as part of the same job.
